Our Approach

The BPB Model
At Building Peaceful Bridges, we believe that belonging begins with relationships. Building a new life in a new country takes more than access to resources and services. It takes connection, understanding, and the opportunity to become part of a community.
Our approach is rooted in building genuine, lasting relationships with newcomers. We meet people where they are, listen to their stories, recognize their strengths, and support them as they navigate the challenges of starting over. Through friendship, practical assistance, and connections with the wider community, we help newcomers find their footing and build a foundation for the future. We see this as a shared journey toward belonging and independence.
We also believe that these relationships transform the communities we all share. When people from different backgrounds come together, listen to one another, and discover what they have in common, understanding grows and barriers begin to fall.
Why We Focus on Newcomers
Building Peaceful Bridges picks up where government agencies leave off. Newcomers need support with housing, stable employment, English language acquisition, and learning to navigate unfamiliar systems. They are often forced into low-wage work due to limited English proficiency and unrecognized credentials. These challenges, along with a lack of U.S. credit history, compound and leave families vulnerable to eviction, overcrowding, or homelessness. We step in at this critical stage, bridging the gap towards lasting self-sufficiency. By responding to these challenges together, we work to prevent homelessness and disrupt the cycle of poverty at the local level.
